Coat Drive:  The adult Sunday School Class is sponsoring a coat drive for the month of January. As we make resolutions for the New Year, we thought it might be a nice time to "de-clutter" our closets by gathering our unused or gently used coats and sweaters to donate to our brothers and sisters in need. We feel that this would be a way to demonstrate God's love to others. Coats may be left on the side bench at the front of the church.

January 20th, Today:  Immediately following the 10:30 AM worship service Club 4:12 will have lunch and go bowling.  Children will need to bring spending money for the bowling alley.

Children’s Worship:  For 2013 a “helper” is needed for the 4th Sunday of the month.  Please contact Wendy Eller if you interested in helping.

Scripture for next week:  Matthew 5:23-24; 18:21-22

Forgiving:  “Making it a Priority But Knowing It Takes Patience”

February 3rd, Sunday:  Club 4:12 will sponsor a soup and sandwich lunch immediately following the 10:30 AM worship service.  This will be for a love offering or a canned food item for Rowan Helping Ministries.

February 9th, Saturday:

Providence Family Night

Supper will be served from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  The menu is Chicken Stew and Hot Dogs with all the trimmings.  Ladies, bring that special dessert to share.  Immediately following the meal we would appreciate everyone’s help to clean up.  As soon as everything is cleaned up we will proceed to the sanctuary for an evening of entertainment with our First Light Praise Team and the musical groups from Providence AME Zion.  Bring your family and invite a friend for a night of great fellowship and wonderful music entertainment.

February 12th:  5:30 PM –    7:00 PM      Fat Tuesday

Sausage & Pancake Supper in the hut.  Sponsored by:  Providence United Methodist Men

February 13th, Wednesday:  7:00 PM    Ash Wednesday Service

This service is the official beginning of the Season of Lent.  Communion will be served.

Heifer Project:  On Sunday, February 17th, we will pass out the Heifer Project banks.  This is our Lenten mission project.  We encourage everyone to participate.  Last year we raised $3,213.90 with which we purchased 2 flocks of geese; 2 flocks of chicks; 2 heifers; 1 camel; 1 water buffalo; 2 llamas; 2 goats; 2 sheep; 1 group of tree seedlings; 1 trio of rabbits; and 4 honey bee hives.  Since we started participating in this program in 2003, we've raised $14,024.04 for this important ministry.  Wow!

Heifer Project Reading Program:  We will be adding some new books to the United Methodist's Women's bookshelf in the Sunday School hallway.  We hope all our youth will find a book and learn more about farming, where our food comes from, and how we can all be better stewards of God's good creation.

Lenten Bible Study:  On the Road with Jesus:  Birth and Ministry:  Travel to the Holy Land with New Testament scholar Ben Witherington and experience the birth and ministry of Jesus in this four-session video study.  Filmed throughout the places Jesus walked and dwelt among us, On the Road with Jesus, with Dr. Witherington's knowledge and perspective, will help you see God's grace at work and bring us back to lives of true meaning and purpose. As believers see places such as Bethlehem, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River, and more, our faith will be deepened while following along the paths Jesus journeyed during his world-changing life and ministry.

Dates:  Class starts on Thursday, February 21st and runs for four weeks

(Feb. 21st, Feb. 28th, Mar. 7th, and Mar. 14th).
Time:  6:30 PM

Location:  The Hut (Fellowship Hall)
